Quick Tip – Identifying Embossing Folders

Hello, Crafters.

I hope you’ve enjoyed a fabulous weekend. We have enjoyed a quiet “domestic” weekend together. I did a lot of crafting yesterday, including making customer thank you cards in preparation for the end of the month. I also managed to squeeze in a card to share, but I ran out of time to write my blog! Instead, I’m sharing a quick tip I saw in one of the Facebook groups I belong to. Unfortunately I forgot to make a note of the person who gave this tip! (If you know who it is,  please let me know so I can give her credit – thanks). 

Blue (Pool Party) Washi Tape – 3D Embossing Folder

The crafter concerned is a demo who runs classes, and she finds there’s a lot of confusion with her attendees as to what “sandwich” they should use when using her Embossing Folders (EF) in her Big Shot! The problem is that we now have three kinds of EF, i.e. regular Textured Impression Embossing Folder (TEIF) (sandwich needed is Big Shot Platform and two Cutting Mats), Dynamic TEIF (sandwich needed is Big Shot Platform and one Cutting Mat, and 3D Embossing Folder (sandwich needed is Big Shot Platform and blue Stampin’ Up! Embossing Plate).

Yellow Washi Tape – Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder

I know which sandwich each type of Embossing Folder needs, but when I reach for the EF I want to use, I need to pull it out of the box they are filed in, together with the product sheet that comes with the EF. I don’t keep them in bags, but I like to leave the product sheet in the box so I know where to file it away again (I keep them filed in alphabetical order). The tip given by the demonstrator is to put some blue Washi Tape on the 3D EF so crafters know to use the blue plate! So simple but genius!

I’ve taken this one step further and have added yellow Washi Tape to my Dynamic TEIF! This means I can now pick out the EF I want to use, look for the Washi Tape, and if it’s Pool Party (I didn’t have blue!) it’s a 3D EF, if it’s yellow, it’s a Dynamic TEIF, and if it doesn’t have any Washi Tape, it’s a regular TEIF, or I’ve forgotten to label it! LOL! Seriously, for me, it’s a great idea and it works really well! If you’re getting confused, you might find this tip helpful. too!

1.      Would you prefer to make more cards per class where have all the prep done for you?

A)     Yes                                                                B) No

2.      Do you prefer to make less cards but actually learn how to make the card/s from scratch?

A)       Yes                                                            B) No

3.      Make smaller cards = possible less cost per class?  ie: 3x3/4x4 (standard = 51/2 x 41/8)

Just a note: small 3x3 or 4x4 cards are not standard cards but still cost the same to post but are great as small thank you cards. I do sell packs of cards and envelopes in my 24/7 store that are small sizes.

Preparation:

Cutting card base from card stock (Landscape/portrait) 2 cards per 1 piece of card stock

Cutting mats (learning how to make most of card stock)

Cutting with dies 

Embossing both with dies and embossing folders

Stamping - using blocks or stamparatus

At my classes currently I have a PDF of the cards/boxes we make for you for free with classes as well as free catalogues at your first class. I then give you a package with the materials cut out for you as well as the die cuts and embossing pre done. This allows more cards to be made in the time frame.

Beginners:

Would you prefer to make and take each card with you doing the cutting, embossing from start to finish utilising my tools and equipment so you can replicate the/a card at home.

"Groan" caught the flu and pictures of a great week with Grand kids.

Hi everyone, just a personal update for the school holidays and next few weeks.

Took my 3 grandsons "glamping" in our caravan at Woodlands caravan park for the first week of the school holidays. they had a ball, it is a fantastic place for kids with the slides, pool and water park. It is also pet friendly so Frankie came with us.

However,I think that between Corbin who got sick in the last 2 days and Greg who was sick with the "man flu" the whole time I was away someone shared the dreaded flu with me.  It is over 16+ years since my last flu so I am not complaining but I am a terrible patient, I hate being sick with sore throats and coughs.

So alas no crafting has been done for a little while.  Lots of you tube watching, keeping abreast with what other demonstrators are doing and learning from them new tricks and ideas. Waiting for my "new trimmer" to arrive with the Christmas Time is Here bundle and designer series paper that I ordered 2 step stamping is fun and the roses look soo authentic that I believe I will enjoy this new set. Sadly it is only on offer in November but as with previous sets that have for a "1 month special" they are soo good that I cannot resist buying them and use them still even though I cannot teach with them once they are retired.  Sad but true.

Looking forward to felling better and YES!!! cleaning my craft room AGAIN and creating.

Amy from the USA has received her New Trimmer and the Christmas is Here product suite and kindly made a video that I can share with you all.

Whilst the prices are USA prices I believe Amy has given us a really good look the trimmer and its benefits. I disagree with her about the old trimmers blades, we only started having problems with the blades in the last year or so due to manufacturing issues. I have found that WD 40 helps extend the life of the blade, not cutting more than one piece of card-stock at a time and most importantly cut glitter/glimmer paper  on the back side as it is far too rough for any blade.

i do not believe the new Trimmer for the Aussie market will have inches down the cutting/scoring arm which will be a trial again as if your like me and follow a lot of overseas demonstrators they cut with  inches on their arm and we have mm/cm on ours.  I often find the change from less than an inch doesn't equate to exactly the same measurements in metric.  However they have given us measurements in 1 inch sections down the base so we may have better chance of working out how to cut in inches as they do in other markets.

This is really important when making fancy fold cards such as a stepper card.

I love that it has more lines to make our cutting bases more accurately, I have been know to cut slightly out,  this can affect the overall card professionalism which is important to me.
